Growing Trees. Building Resilience. Empowering Communities.
The Harira Climate Resilience Initiative is a flagship program dedicated to restoring Kenya’s degraded landscapes and strengthening adaptive capacity in the face of climate change. Through targeted reforestation, climate education, and community-led development, we deliver measurable environmental and socio-economic outcomes that advance national and global sustainability goals. By investing in nature-based solutions and empowering local communities, we are not only rehabilitating ecosystems but also building climate resilience, enhancing livelihoods, and safeguarding opportunities for future generations.
What We Do
Harira is more than a tree-planting NGO. We are a strategic driver of environmental restoration and socio-economic transformation. Our mission is to integrate ecosystem rehabilitation with community development, creating sustainable value chains that benefit both people and the planet.
Through evidence-based interventions and collaborative partnerships, our core programs focus on:
Eco System Restoration
Implementing large-scale reforestation and land regeneration projects to restore biodiversity and enhance climate resilience.
Community Empowerment
Building inclusive, sustainable livelihoods that align with environmental stewardship with local economic growth.
Climate Solutions
Leveraging science, innovation, and policy engagement to deliver scalable, high-impact responses to climate change.
Wangari Maathai
You can not protect the environment unless you empower people, you inform them, and you help them understand that these resources are their own, that they MUST protect them
Why Trees Matter
Trees are more than just greenery. They are life-givers and protectors.
Climate Action
Fruit trees, beekeeping, and nurseries create income for local families.
Water Security
Green spaces reduce stress, improve air quality, and promote mental wellness.
Biodiversity
Native trees restore habitats for birds, bees, and wildlife.
Healthy Communities
Forests protect watersheds, rivers, and rainfall patterns.
Livelihoods
Trees absorb carbon dioxide, helping Kenya meet climate adaptation goals.
